WalkthroughThe PR migrates MCP scaffolding from SSE to Streamable HTTP. It also updates KV-cache hint handling, dropped-message retention, and iter-research prompt context. ChangesMCP Streamable HTTP migration
Priority: ➖ Normal Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes Change: Feature · Severity of issue fixed: Medium Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to Non-loopback MCP deployments may reject valid requests, while older permitted MCP versions carry a session-isolation vulnerability. These issues should be addressed before merge. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 4 | ❌ 1❌ Failed checks (1 warning)

In `@examples/scaffolding/contrib/Coder/run_coder.py`:
- Line 34: Update the default MCP endpoint to port 8083 while preserving
explicitly configured 8086 values. Change the defaults in run_coder.py (line 34)
and run_swebench.py (line 240), and update the corresponding references in
mcp/coder/README.md (line 69), trace_replay/README.md (line 359), and
contrib/Coder/__init__.py (line 23); do not alter unrelated explicit Open Deep
Research configuration using 8086.
In `@examples/scaffolding/mcp/coder/coder_mcp.py`:
- Line 502: Update the lifespan function signature to annotate its return type
as AsyncIterator[None], and import AsyncIterator from collections.abc.
- Line 460: Update the request handling around client_id and
_session.ensure_session() so omitted client_id values resolve to a stable
identifier derived from the MCP session, or reject requests that omit it; do not
generate a new UUID per request. Preserve consistent sandbox and session state
across consecutive stateful tool calls, and add a regression test covering two
calls without client_id.
- Line 498: Update each affected server’s FastMCP construction to pass
TransportSecuritySettings configured for the effective Uvicorn bind host and
client-facing origins, including the default 0.0.0.0 or configured host. Apply
this consistently to the FastMCP instances in the listed server modules, and
pass the settings through the FastMCP constructor rather than
streamable_http_app().
In `@tensorrt_llm/scaffolding/contrib/mcp/mcp_utils.py`:
- Line 27: Update connect_to_streamable_http_server to explicitly declare a None
return type, preserving its existing behavior.
In `@tests/unittest/scaffolding/test_mcp_worker.py`:
- Line 58: Update the run_mcp_server function signature to declare a None return
annotation, preserving its existing parameters and behavior.
- Around line 49-51: Update RemoteMCPServer._wait_for_server to consider the
server ready only when its readiness response has HTTP status 200, preserving
the bounded retry and error-handling path for 404, 500, and other non-success
responses. Do not rely solely on the /health route assertion.

- Line 13: Update the test setup around the apiary_client module stubs to use
the pytest monkeypatch fixture and monkeypatch.setitem() for both sys.modules
entries, ensuring the original module state is restored even if loading fails.
- Line 1: Add the repository-standard NVIDIA copyright header at the top of the
Python source containing the asyncio import, with 2026 as the latest meaningful
modification year; leave the implementation unchanged.

In `@requirements.txt`:
- Line 98: Update the MCP dependency constraint to exclude affected releases and
require a patched 1.x version, while retaining the upper bound needed for the
existing mcp.server.fastmcp APIs. Verify the resulting range covers the secure
release and is applied consistently wherever MCP dependencies are constrained.

Summary
Fixes #19329.
Fixes #19281.
Fixes #19319.
This PR consolidates three separately tracked Scaffolding fixes into one review/CI target, following the contributor's discussion with WeiHaocheng. It supersedes #19014 and incorporates the code from #19282.
1. MCP Streamable HTTP migration (#19329)
MCPWorker, per-scopeApiaryMCPWorker, and the contrib MCP client.client_idsandbox identity, image selection, attach/detach behavior, and application/session cleanup./mcp, including matching the Coder server's default port, and requiremcp>=1.23.0,<2.0.0.sse_client,SseServerTransport, and legacy route references from Scaffolding examples and implementation. The MCP specification replaces the legacy HTTP+SSE transport with Streamable HTTP. SSE framing itself remains supported within Streamable HTTP. Existing deployments using legacy-only MCP servers must migrate/configure compatible endpoints.
2. KV truncate endpoint (#19281)
/_control/kv_cache/truncateendpoint instead ofkv_cache_hints./v1.3. Retain only the system prefix (#19319)
The agreed agent retention policy is to retain the reusable system prompt, not the task-specific user/assistant/tool context.
DropKVCacheTasknow retains only consecutive leading system messages, stopping at the first non-system message. It does not collect later system messages across gaps. This does not change the engine's block-granular truncate implementation or claim exact byte/token-boundary eviction, GPU-memory release, or a measured performance improvement. Prompt-role changes in IterResearch should receive behavioral review/CI validation.
Validation of the combined branch
/v1base URLs with/without trailing slashes and API keys; preservation of target messages and headers; multiple user turns; tool turns; missing/multiple/late system messages; worker dispatch; and task-independent IterResearch system templates with preserved task inputs.ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'cuda'during package initialization. No GPU-backed KV eviction or model-quality benchmark was run.Suggested CI targets:
The existing
unittest/scaffoldingentries inl0_cpu.ymlandl0_h100.ymlalready include these tests. Latest upstream main (b941c5c15) was merged without conflicts; existing review commits/history are preserved.Dev Engineer Review
