WalkthroughThe change adds Nemotron-H layer-type compatibility helpers, applies vocabulary normalization during configuration and speculative MTP merging, expands tokenizer fallback handling, and adds compatibility tests. ChangesNemotron-H compatibility
Priority: ⬇️ Low Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes Change: Bug fix Suggested reviewers: Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The compatibility implementation is covered in part, but several new fallback paths are not directly protected against regressions. This is mergeable with owner awareness, though adding the focused tests would improve confidence. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 4 | ❌ 1❌ Failed checks (1 warning)

unrelated exceptions still propagate.

Approving — the comments below are optional touch-ups, not blockers.
The retry-only-after-failure structure is the right call — a transformers that parses the checkpoint natively never reaches the rewrite, so this can't regress a working config. Two gaps worth closing:
The tokenizer path has no test. It's the path in the traceback on https://nvbugs/6708111, and it's the most fragile part of the change: the guard is a substring match on an exception message, so an upstream wording change silently turns the fallback off and the failure reappears looking unrelated. A test that raises a ValueError mentioning layers_block_type from a patched AutoTokenizer.from_pretrained and asserts _fallback_to_fast_tokenizer is reached would pin it.
The description omits the speculative/MTP change. It covers the config and tokenizer paths but not _merge_mtp_fields_from_speculative_model in tensorrt_llm/_torch/speculative/utils.py, which is where the second helper is consumed. Worth a sentence, since that's the path a reader chasing an MTP-layer-count bug later would need to find.

No matching CI or manual-QA test-list entry was found.Description
transformers 5.13 renamed the Nemotron-H per-layer vocabulary (mamba -> linear_attention, attention -> full_attention) and made hybrid_override_pattern a derived property that save_pretrained no longer serializes, so checkpoint exported from ModelOpt using a newer transformers fails to load under the pinned transformers==5.5.4, on both the model-config and the tokenizer path.
This restores the legacy spelling and rebuilds the config after AutoConfig has already failed, which regenerates hybrid_override_pattern needed by is_nemotron_hybrid.
