  • Good luck Grant! You'll nail it!! Drew Morris

  • Good luck Grant! I'm sure you'll do great on it.

AND I feel I am in a similar boat as you - no degree and I do have a cert, but it is the SQL Server Fundamentals from quite a few years back. Not as far back as your certs, and I'm not at 40 years in databases, but I'm coming up on 20 years in IT/DBA/C#, so had my feet wet in a bunch of different buckets and it all complimented each other. It is all similar skills and needing to learn the tools at your disposal and how the system you are working with works. You try to treat your database like a C# app and your loops are going to be a bottleneck and make you think databases are garbage. Same thing though if you try to treat C# like a database - you will have issues trying to change a column instead of a cell. IT fits into that because of the troubleshooting you learn from all the coding.

The above is all just my opinion on what you should do.
As with all advice you find on a random internet forum - you shouldn't blindly follow it.  Always test on a test server to see if there is negative side effects before making changes to live!
I recommend you NEVER run "random code" you found online on any system you care about UNLESS you understand and can verify the code OR you don't care if the code trashes your system.

  • Thanks Brian!

No arguments and nothing to add.
