About CloutStack

CloutStack is a directory of the software people use to make a living from an audience. Editing and publishing, newsletters and memberships, contracts and tax, and the parts nobody warns you about until the first invoice.

Every listing says what a tool costs, who it suits and who should skip it. Tools are added by us and submitted by the people who build them, who write the listing themselves, and a person reads each submission before it goes live. Every star on the site comes from somebody who used the tool. We do not rate anything.

Some links earn us a commission and some listings are paid placements, which are labelled. Neither changes what a review says or where a tool ranks. See the disclosure for how we make money.

Common questions

What counts as a creator tool?

Anything somebody uses to make, grow or get paid for work they publish. That covers the obvious ones like video editors and newsletter platforms, and the ones people find out about later: contracts, bookkeeping, tax, and getting paid across borders.

How do tools get listed?

Two ways. We add them ourselves, or the people who build them submit them and write the listing. Either way a person reads it before it goes live, and anything submitted has to be a real product a creator could sign up for today.

Does it cost anything to be listed?

No, if you display our badge on your site. We check that it is still there, and the listing stays free for as long as it is. If you would rather not link out, a one-time fee lists you without the badge.

Where do the ratings come from?

Every star on this site comes from people who used the tool and left a review. We do not score anything ourselves. A tool nobody has reviewed shows no star at all, which is most of them today, and that is the honest state of a young directory rather than a gap we would rather fill with a number of our own.

Can a company pay for a better rating?

No. Nobody can buy a rating, because the rating is other people's reviews and we do not touch them. Paid placement does exist, it is labelled wherever it appears, and a featured listing sits at the top of a category page. What a listing says and what its reviewers said are not for sale.

How often is it updated?

New tools are added continuously, and a listing carries the date its details were last checked. Pricing changes faster than anything else, so if you spot something out of date there is a link on every page to tell us.
