Beatty Sequence

The Beatty sequence is a spectrum sequence with an irrational base. In other words, the Beatty sequence corresponding to an irrational number theta is given by |_theta_|, |_2theta_|, |_3theta_|, ..., where |_x_| is the floor function. If alpha and beta are positive irrational numbers such that

 1/alpha+1/beta=1,

then the Beatty sequences |_alpha_|, |_2alpha_|, ... and |_beta_|, |_2beta_|, ... together contain all the positive integers without repetition.

The sequences for particular values of alpha and beta are given in the following table (Sprague 1963; Wells 1986, pp. 35 and 40), where phi is the golden ratio.

The complementary sequences with parameters phi and phi^2 are the Wythoff sequences. Ashburn (2026b) determined when a positive integer has exactly one or exactly two representations as the sum of one term from each of these two sequences.

For the array with rows R_m={|_kphi^m_|:k>=1}, m>=1, let a(N) count the rows containing N. Ashburn (2026a) proved that, for every positive integer v, the set of N satisfying a(N)=v has positive natural density. For i<j, the rows R_i and R_j are disjoint iff j-i is odd and divides i. The array and row counts are OEIS A128440 and OEIS A358359, respectively. Ashburn (2026ab) reports Claude assistance with computations and states that he checked the proofs and computations.
