Virtual Field Trips to Explore Careers of the {Future}

I was just amazed at all of the computer science used to get a package from order to ship...I know a lot of people say that computers are putting people out of jobs, but this tour shows young people that is not true. It helped them to understand the jobs might look different, because humans have to be behind all the technology.

I loved every bit of it. I loved how engaged my students became asking me how to get jobs and what they would need to go to school for. I used the [tour] as a kick off for hour of code week (and a kick off to our coding unit). I loved that vocabulary words were used and continually referenced. My students started helping each other with the definitions “hardware is like what you get at the hardware store”.

I love how different careers were highlighted. Most students think of video games when they think about Computer Science. These videos opened their eyes to more careers. What I liked even more was how each employee told how they got into Computer Science. These videos showed students other paths to get into computer science [besides college].
